Christmas Laundry
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one
who will keep you on track.
Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG
It’s here! Advent has arrived. The Christmas season is upon us. I mean, it feels like it’s been here awhile…. Hobby Lobby started selling Christmas decorations months ago.
As I write to you, I’m feeling an undertone of anxiety that I’ve missed a Cyber Monday sale I was supposed to shop…. How about you?
My sister Kelsey sent this picture on Saturday night. The beauty of the Christmas tree, stockings by the fireside, Nativity on the mantle; and the unfolded laundry front and center!
I love that she took the picture. I love that she sent it. I love that we aren’t perfect at Christmas! Jesus would not be part of our story if we were.
And even though I know Christmas will not be perfect, I still catch myself in the anger and frustration that comes with striving for that impossible goal. I’m embarrassed to admit I have already lost my patience a few times. And we’ve only made it through December 2nd so far.
Because I imagine there’s a slim chance you might also loose your patience, at least once, before December 25th, I would like to share the Serenity Prayer with you. I’m sure you’ll recognize the beginning. Did you know there was more? I did not until a friend shared with me. It might be just the reminder you need as we navigate through December:
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen.
