The Friendly Tree
Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name.
3 John 1:15 NIV
Thanks to the power company, there are a lot of creatively pruned trees along our roads. I usually feel pretty sad for those trees, except the chicken tree, but we’ll talk about that one another day.
Our friendly tree only has one side, but not because of Pioneer Electric. The tree is old enough that half of it just fell off at some point.
It wasn’t until last week that I realized our friendly tree was in fact “friendly.” As we pulled into the driveway after one of the girls’ musical practices, I said “hey girls, that tree kind of looks like it’s waving at us!”
I love when my silliness serves as a jumping off point for the girls.
Amera immediately rattled off the first part of this poem. And by the time we made it up to the house, she had her poem finished. It isn’t long. It isn’t grand. But I still like it, and I think God likes it, too.
The Friendly Tree

The friendly tree
is always there.
It’s branch in the air
waving at me.
As we sit at the table
on Thanksgiving Day,
a smile on it’s face,
as we begin to say grace.
It’s even more likely I’ll imagine being greeted by Jesus at the end of the lane now that I realize we have a waving tree by the cross. Where is Jesus greeting you this week? And are you looking to greet others in his name, too?
