Tuesday Breakfast Notes #71

New Hospitality

When God's people are in need, be ready to help them.

Always be eager to practice hospitality.

Romans 12:13 NLT

Remember when hospitality, as an industry, was pretty well shut down a few years ago? The hospitality industry relies on people being together!

“Together” was no longer an option as eating out, grocery shopping, going to church and playing in the park came largely to a halt. It was difficult to connect with our communities.

We, as God’s people, are called to hospitality, whether we’re in the industry or not. To me, that meant hosting friends in our home or taking meals and flowers to theirs. How were we, or how was I, to be hospitable to our people if they couldn’t come over?

But our God is creative. And he has creative people all around us. During Covid, I learned each Sunday that hospitality doesn’t have to be in person.

My friend Burr began inviting others into his living room for a virtual church service 222 Sunday’s ago. Yes, you did read that right: 222. Burr has been recording and sending his church service every week for more than 4 years.

Each Sunday morning, Burr chooses a song and a Bible passage. He makes artwork to define his pulpit in front of the TV stand. He recites the Lord’s prayer and his own, unique sermon.

Burr saw that his friends missed church and he came up with a way to meet the need. And he has remained dedicated to that service.

I am not only grateful to receive Burr’s weekly gift for myself. We often listen as a family to Burr’s church. My girls look forward to seeing Burr’s song choice. And as adults, I hope they will remain dedicated to God’s purpose for them, just as they’ve seen Burr do each week.

What about in your life- Has God been showing you any local needs that are looking for creative solutions?
