Tuesday Breakfast Notes #63

No water

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.”

John 4:13-14 NIV

It was last Friday, late afternoon, as I stood watching the dog while he hunted for just the right spot in the yard to relieve himself. I hoped he wasn’t thirsty; we didn’t have any water to give him.

I realized I needed to go to the bathroom, too. But in a family of 6 I didn’t think I should use up 1 of the 2 available flushes.

We usually have 4 buckets of water in with the lambs. But the buckets were empty, and we couldn’t refill them.

I could start the dishwasher.

No. No water.

I could start the laundry.

No. No water.

At least I could make supper.

No. The noodles needed boiling water.

I could tell the girls to brush their teeth before we left.

No.

And I realized I was thirsty.

Thankfully the water was back about 10pm. (Husbands and dads so often save the day!) Not having water access is a different kind of panic than losing electricity. I wasn't finding a way to make this an adventure!

While I stood watching Oscar taking his bathroom break, my eyes opened a little wider as I heard these words run through my mind: “It’s good Jesus doesn’t turn off his water.”

Be ready this week; you might be the help someone is looking for. Jesus said that with him we will never thirst again. But we'll always be thirsty if we forget, or don't know, to drink!
