Tuesday Breakfast Notes #60

Paper Towels

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT

Today I bring to you a guest artist- my daughter Amera! I think my sister Shelby’s description is pretty spot on: “Amera can come off as quiet, but don’t let her fool you. She is fiercely competitive, detailed in everything she does, and always has a joke to share.”

A bit about this artwork: it's an independent color study from 2023, with Crayola markers, on paper towels.

Did you recognize the picture as a paper towel? You can see the texture if you look closely. I knew that paper towels had designs, but I had never stopped to study them. Not the way Amera did over the week or so she spent working on this project of hers at bedtime.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I think paper towels are already pretty great. As a mom of 4, I can attest to their usefulness in any room of the house, even the porch, and at any given time. They work on hot or cold messes, on the floor or on little faces.

Amera took the time to see if our paper towels could be a little more. She used her own time and artistic gifts. She chose to look beyond their everyday purpose.

And maybe the way we look at each other, especially as followers of Jesus, isn't so terribly different. We can be grateful for the gifts of those around us. And then we can use our own time and gifts to help others be just a little more.

How will you encourage and build up those around you this week? It might be as simple as starting with a smile!
