Easter on Monday

To find your way home.”

Take Me To the Cross, Al Denson

Easter has already come and gone. We enjoyed the day, with church, food, family, eggs, games, sunshine, and a walk up to the cross.

We were actually the third group to take the walk. On Saturday my dad talked to a family who stopped for some photos. Some sweet friends stopped by on Sunday morning while we were still at church ourselves. Later, my sisters brought their kiddos over for a midafternoon walk.

Sylvia was the first of the 7 kids to make it up the hill. I snapped the picture I’ve used for today, and couldn’t help but think of the song “Take Me to the Cross.” I’ve included a link at the bottom, in case you haven’t heard it before. Or in case you want to hear it again.

Easter was lovely, but I know we didn’t spend enough time on the meaning of the day. The girls went to bed late and I found myself feeling like I had missed out on giving them an experience worthy of Jesus’ sacrifice.

But part of the good news of Easter is that the celebration doesn’t stop on Sunday! Easter Day serves as a reminder to reset as needed, and carry on.

Our kids need the everyday, daily experiences to really know how much Jesus loves them. We can give them the physical reminders to return to Jesus, like the cross in our woods as you drive by, or a church steeple, or a piece of jewelry.

And more importantly, we can demonstrate our love in the midst of their mistakes, we can forgive their anger and hurtful words, and we can establish a practice of forgiveness by asking for it ourselves. Have you ever asked your kids to forgive you for something?
