More than you think I do.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NIV
I look forward to February 8th. I have for 18 years now. It’s the anniversary of Stephen and my first date. It was college romance at it’s best- a lunch date at the hot side of Scott Hall cafeteria while at Miami University. We both got hot subs. I only ate half of my sandwich that day.
It was a year or two later that Grandma Faulkner showed me where she had written a reminder of Stephen and my first date in her journal, right under she and Grandpa’s wedding anniversary; also February 8th. Dad told me this year would have been their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Grandma and Grandpa McGuire were married 58 years when he went to the hospital. He didn’t come home from that visit, and he didn’t leave Grandma wondering. Early on, Grandpa would call Grandma each morning (way too early if I remember right). She would pick up the phone and he would say “I love you more than you think I do.”
February is a month we all think of the loves in our lives a little extra. But we don’t have to wait for Valentine’s Day. More importantly, God doesn't wait for Valentine's Day to love us. He is the ultimate example of “I love you more than you think I do.”
