Tuesday Breakfast Notes #15

The Keys to Heaven

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.”

Matthew 18:10 NIV

How many of your kids, grandkids, or nieces and nephews have had a set of these teething keys? Did you know they’re actually the keys to heaven?

I mean, that’s what Sylvia said, so…

Sunday we were at mom’s and dad’s house. The teething keys were laying in Gatlin’s carseat. Sylvia took them out and we began to brainstorm; I like to talk about the story to go with everything (if you can imagine that!).

I told her one of them had to be for the tractor. She said one was for his semi truck. Then Sylvia proudly announced that the third key was Gatlin’s “sky key to God!”

It’s so easy to see, or hear, these little moments and let them slide without a second thought. Though, I sure don’t think the angels missed this almost 7 year old sharing the love of Jesus with her 5 month old cousin, in a way only a 7 year old can.

Jesus told his disciples not to ignore the children. That we should become more like them in how we look for his kingdom. The message of Jesus doesn’t have to be overwhelmingly complicated- maybe you can even find a reminder in a baby toy.

Jesus is the key to heaven. Teething keys can now always remind us that we have that key!

In case you're wondering which key exactly is the sky key to God, I double checked. Sylvia reports:

-The blue and green key is for the tractor.

-The yellow and orange key is for the semi truck.

-The blue and red one is the sky key to God.

If you stop and really look, how are the littles in your life sharing Jesus with you or someone else?
